During the admission process, prior to submitting an application, both prospective students and their parents should plan on scheduling a visit to the school during a normal school day. We encourage parents to visit first without their children, so they can observe the school operation without the distraction of watching their own child. Students are encouraged to visit for a full day to 'experience Oasis' after a parent has observed. Parents may of course accompany their children as they visit (but are not required to, depending on the comfort level of the child).
What happens during a school visit? Parents are welcome to observe unobtrusively as long as they like. Feel free to wander between groups to observe different aspects of our program. Oasis teaching staff will take time as they can to talk with you and answer questions — the best time for this is during recess or lunch breaks. Take a tour of the facilities, join us for lunch, and get comfortable with the Oasis experience.
Visiting students are teamed with current students of similar ages. Students are invited to participate in class activities with the whole class, with small groups and one-on-one, if they feel comfortable doing so. These visits give your child a chance to become familiar with our school: to experience many aspects of our program, to observe student/teacher and student/student relationships, to meet a variety of students, and to get a sense of our expectations. These visits also give our teachers an opportunity to become acquainted with your child and to observe your child in a number of different venues, which will help us determine whether your child would thrive in our school. The classroom visited is not necessarily the one to which the new student will be assigned. Most visits are scheduled during January, February, and March for enrollments the following September.
What to bring when you visit Students visiting for a full day should bring a water bottle and a peanut-free sack lunch. The school does not have a hot lunch program, although refrigerators are available for storing lunches and microwaves are available for warming food. Parents are also welcome to join us at lunch time with their own peanut-free sack lunch.
Please contact us to schedule your visit to Oasis School.
PLEASE NOTE: Oasis School is a scent-free facility. PLEASE do NOT wear perfume or use other scented products on the morning of the day you visit the school. One of our staff is severely allergic to scented products, which almost always cause a bad reaction. You may be requested regretfully to leave and come back to visit another (unscented) day if you are wearing personal scented products the day of your visit.
Thank you for helping us maintain the health of our Oasis community!!
