The following is a compilation of the most asked questions about the admission process to Oasis School. Please feel free to contact our staff if you have any further questions.
Is any testing required for admission to Oasis School?
There is no specific test that is mandatory for every student. Existing test results, report cards, etc. will be valuable in helping us determine whether your child would be a good candidate for Oasis School. In some cases you may be requested to get specific testing performed at your cost prior to consideration of your child's application. After your child has been accepted, test results and other formal or informal assessments will be used to determine your child's appropriate placement.
Can students attend Oasis School part time?
No. Due to benefits that accrue from the integrated nature of the Oasis curriculum, part time attendance is not viable. Being a contributing member of the Oasis community requires a commitment to full-time school attendance.
Can students participate in activities such as orchestra or speech therapy that are offered by the local public school districts during the regular school day?
Yes, we allow students to participate in this type of activity, depending on the time of day it occurs, its frequency, and the length of time it will cause a student to be absent from school. Making arrangements for such participation is up to the parents. We do not provide transportation, and parents should discuss how to handle the academic time that will be missed prior to making a commitment to such an activity.
If my child is admitted, are there other requirements I should know about?
Yes. As a small school operating almost exclusively on income from tuition that is significantly lower than other comparable independent schools, we depend on the active involvement of parents in a variety of ways. Each family is expected to contribute a minimum of 60 hours per year (5 hours per month on average) to the school. Most families find that they choose to contribute more hours than are required. A wide range of volunteer jobs is available, including such tasks as assisting with maintenance/repair work, field trips, landscaping, academic enrichment opportunities, etc. We are proud of our parents' level of involvement, and it is our experience that parent participation in the life of the school benefits parents and their students as well as the school.
Recognizing that the cost of private education is not covered by tuition income alone, Oasis must also depend on our school community to help make up the difference between tuition income and the actual cost of educating an Oasis student. Families show support for our mission and commitments by giving to the Oasis School annual fund drive and by participating in a variety of fund raising activities during the year.
What are the primary entry levels for Oasis School?
Parents are encouraged to apply for admission beginning in kindergarten. We will continue to consider applications for the upper grades on a space-available basis. As we become full, space will generally be available at the upper grades only as students graduate or move out of the area. Please feel free to call the school and ask whether space is available in the desired grade level.
How many students does Oasis School accept in each grade and what is the student-to-teacher ratio?
Oasis has room for a maximum of 48 students, with 12 students in each of its multi-age classes (K-1, 2-3, 4-5, and 6-8). We seek to maintain both gender and grade balance within each multi-age group.
Does Oasis School accept transfer students during the school year?
Mid-year transfers are accepted occasionally depending on the circumstances, on a case by case, space-available basis. Call the school to discuss your child's situation if this is of interest to you. The standard admissions process will be required but can be expedited if appropriate.
Does Oasis School accept students with disabilities?
Each student application is considered individually and acceptance will include consideration of a child's strengths and needs in relation to the Oasis curriculum, staffing and community.
Can Oasis School accommodate children with allergies?
The school is as environmentally 'green' as is possible. While we make every effort to accommodate the needs of each child at Oasis, and will try to eliminate allergens whenever possible, we cannot guarantee that we can provide a completely allergen-free environment for every child. The school is currently designated scent-free and peanut-free due to allergies of staff members and continuing students. Please discuss any special allergy-related needs your child has with Oasis staff.
Is financial assistance with tuition available?
Not at the present time.
