One of the distinguishing features of Oasis School is the focus, dedication and commitment of its parent community. We are proud of the level of involvement our parents have in the life of the school. As a small school operating almost exclusively on income from tuition that is significantly lower than comparable independent schools, we depend on the active involvement of our parents in a variety of ways.
Expected Contribution
It is expected that each family will contribute a minimum of 60 hours per year assisting with a variety of tasks that are important to the viability of the school. This averages out to 5 hours per month per family. Families keep track of the time volunteered on their own. Since Oasis families prefer to be involved in their children's education, most families find that they willingly choose to spend far more time than the minimum amount required. The time required can be adjusted in the event of difficult family situations or extenuating circumstances.
How to Participate
Parent volunteers are among Oasis' most valuable resources. Every parent of a student enrolled at Oasis School is automatically a member of the Parent Co-op. Their influence is seen in every event we hold, every field study we go on, and many areas of the curriculum. With a wide range of volunteer opportunities available, parents can choose how they will contribute to the learning experiences of all Oasis students. We try as much as possible to match the needs of our school with the strengths parents offer. The types of jobs that are available include:
|
Community building

Pot luck get-togethers at the beginning and end of the school year, helping with open houses, snack coordination, etc.

Friday Forays are a venue for parent participation that is a favorite of both parents and students. Every Friday in January and February the regular academic routine is suspended for the day and parents or other mentors share with the students in depth explorations in areas of their expertise. With input and guidance from the teachers, parents draw on their life experiences, hobbies, careers, and their own studies to provide between four and eight extracurricular subjects that students can choose from. All present and former Oasis School extended families and friends are encouraged to participate in Friday Forays. Let us know what you have to offer! Be brave - all you need is an idea, some time, passion, and a sense of humor!
