engaged_children300.jpg Oasis School’s curriculum is an elaborate tapestry that grows and changes as teachers weave academic skills through the warp of each child’s interests, abilities, and developmental needs. It is an integrated, multidisciplinary exploration of real-world issues and problems that allows students to experience how interconnected the world really is. It places heightened emphasis on projects that reflect the student’s knowledge, creativity, and ability to manipulate and transform ideas. It employs resources beyond textbooks and even beyond the classroom walls. Carefully chosen field experiences are vital bridges between the classroom and the real world.

Teaching respect, tolerance, and responsibility is also an integral part of school life. Students want to contribute to their communities so we help them identify positive ways to invest their energies. In service learning projects students have the opportunity to connect their interests and their learning to their roles and responsibilities in the greater community and the world. projects300.jpg

With this type of curriculum, education goes beyond the mastery of basic skills. Students develop critical thinking skills, as well as compassion and concern for others, to meet life’s challenges individually or as part of a team. Making connections, solving problems by examining multiple perspectives, and incorporating information from different fields are essential skills needed for sucess in the increasingly complex 21st century.
